Leading Hand / 2IC Concentrator Technician (Fitter)

The Cadia Mine is going through an exciting transformation period and we are seeking a Filtration Leading Hand to ensure the Ore Treatment Department is operating in a safe, timely and effectively manner. Reporting to the Final Product Supervisor, you will assist in all facets of production on a day to day basis in the Filtration Plant within the Ore Treatment area. This will be the ideal role for an experienced Concentrator Technician/Fitter looking to step up into a 2IC capacity and take on a new challenge in the mining industry.


The Filtration Leading Hand reports to the Final Product Supervisor and is part of a team of technicians, comprising a rotating shift crew, in the Ore Treatment Department. They will also be responsible for stepping up as the Final Product Supervisor role in their absence and leading the team. The leading hand must have an aptitude for the maintenance platform as well as operational platform as this role will require them to deliver respectively on both platforms.

Key responsibilities of this 2IC role include:

  • Ensure processing plants are treating the maximum amount of ore while achieving the required metal recovery and concentrate grade
  • Meet the agreed production targets set by the Final Product Supervisor/Management Team and ensure the Filtration Technicians maintain an accurate account of the shift and outstanding issues
  • Ensure Filtration Technicians capture and raise issues within their respective areas by raising work notifications and entering log sheets and escalating to Leading Hand/Final Product Supervisor as required
  • Participate in shift change handover meetings, provide quality information and direction to the oncoming shift and ensure compliance to Daily Plan, Shutdown Plans and Operating Parameters

You will demonstrate, support and encourage alignment with Newcrest values and policies, and ensure compliance with Safety and Environmental Management systems, policies and procedures

This is a full-time residential position working a Monday to Friday roster with 9-hour day, 6:00am to 3:00pm.


About You

To succeed in this role, you will be safety focused, team oriented, enjoy continuous improvement. You will have some previous experience a 2ic or leading hand operational role, coupled with your skillset as a Concentrator Technician or similar role within the mining industry. Your ability to work under pressure and cope with time restraints will see you succeed in the role as will be your ability to prioritise scheduled work and team-based activity. As a self-motivated performer, you will demonstrate a strong safety attitude and lead by example. Along with this, your proficiency with SAP and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word and ability to lead from the front will form a part of your success.  

Forklift, Crane, EWP, Working at Heights and Confined Space tickets are not essential but will be highly advantageous.
