Our Telfer operation in Australia is now recruiting for the position of Senior Engineer- Electrical

Operations near and far

Located in the Great Sandy Desert in the East Pilbara region of WA, Telfer is a short two-hour flight from Perth. Working as a fly-in-fly-out (FIFO) operation, comprising of open pit and underground, you’ll be working 8 days on, 6 days off lifestyle. While at site Telfer offers a diverse range of recreational activities including a gym, swimming pool, driving range, movie room, and refurbished communal eatery.

Who we are looking for

Reporting into the Superintendent- Engineering, we are currently seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to be one of the key subject matter experts within the Maintenance Department at Telfer. The roster for this position will be 8/6 FIFO from Perth, flying Fridays.

The purpose of this role will be to proactively lead technical excellence in electrical maintenance and reliability to ensure a safe operation. You will be accountable for making technical decisions, providing technical guidance to peers, your direct reports, and working closely with Senior Electrical Compliance Engineer.

Other accountabilities include:

  • Being the key technical subject matter expert for the Operation, leading and being accountable for a team of electrical engineers.
  • Proactively identifying and leading reliability analysis & improvement initiatives for electrical assets including Winder Hoisting System, Mills, Crushers, Conveyors, Pumps and Power Distribution (33kV-0.415kV).
  • Developing and implementing improvements to plant and equipment including engineering and capital project management
  • Working closely with electrical supervisors and technicians to provide technical support for fault finding and repairs
  • Create, update, and review new or existing site electrical standards and procedures including low voltage, high voltage, hazardous areas, functional safety etc.
  • Be accountable for Root Cause Analysis (RCA’s) related to electrical related events.
  • Identification and management of safety and business risks associated with electrical installations.
  • Developing and improving upon maintenance strategies and tactics.
  • Ensure the safety of yourself and all other personal whilst ensuring compliance with Newmont Occupational Health, Safety, Environmental Policies & Procedures
  • Working shoulder-to-shoulder with the Senior Electrical Compliance Engineer to ensure electrical engineering excellence.

To succeed in this role, you will have extensive technical background in typical mine site electrical assets, including HV distribution, HV and LV motors (up to 15MW), transformers, HV/LV switchboards, protection relays and control systems.

Other requirements include:

  • An Engineers Australia recognised degree in Electrical Engineering
  • A minimum 7 year demonstrated experience in the Mining Industry
  • Demonstrated Processing Plant and heavy industry hands on experience, working closely with electrical maintenance personnel.
  • Sound experience with electrical network modelling software (such as ETAP, DIGSilent).
  • A solid working knowledge of AS3000 and AS3008.
  • Previous experience demonstrating electrical engineering leadership within the Owner’s team is highly regarded.
