Our Lihir operation in Power and Utilities Department is now recruiting for the position of Technician - Instrumentation.

The role will have the following responsibilities but are not limited to:

  • Support all engines, turbines, and auxiliary equipment by maintaining a high level of understanding of the power station’s operational activities including fault diagnosis, repairs, and equipment performance.
  • Complete any HSE tasks only if the hazards and any potential consequences are understood and any corrections are first agreed upon by the relevant Supervisor.
  • Effectively operates diesel engines, steam turbines and auxiliary equipment by safe operating procedures to ensure sufficient and consistent power is provided to all end users.
  • Utilise SCADA and Wartsila WOIS – the computerized control system to monitor engine parameters and adjust variables to ensure consistent provision of power to end – users.
  • Operators, monitors, and services all outstation plant and equipment including waste heat boilers, oil-fired boilers, heavy fuel oil separators, fuel/day tanks, sludge incinerators, chlorination, and demineralisation plants, on-site standby generators.
  • Performs preventative maintenance inspections on the plant and assists maintenance Supervisors on day-to-day activities of the plant.

Essential criteria

  • 3 – 5 years of relevant work Instrumentation experience essential in power generation or heavy industry preferably in Mining or Oil & Gas.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in Industrial Instrumentation.
  • Trade qualification in Industrial Instrumentation/Electronics.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in all aspects of operations, monitoring, maintenance and troubleshooting of steam turbines, diesel engines, HFO separation units and related plant & equipment.
  • Proficient in the reading/interpretation & accurate updating of electrical drawings of power plant equipment.
  • Installation, repair, troubleshooting and maintenance of Plant Instruments.
  • Currently holds or is willing to attain skills related to SCADA and Wartsila WOIS automation control System.
  • Solid understanding and awareness of HSE requirements, responsibilities, and obligations.
  • High attention to detail with good time management skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously from time to time.

Desirable criteria

  • Electrical License
  • PNG Driver’s License
  • Current CPR/LVR

The Requirements

  • Must be open to FIFO in PNG.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
