Cadia is located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional township of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Employees reside in varied accommodation options in and around the district of Orange with the surrounding area’s occupied by wineries, stone fruit orchards, farming and national parks.

Who we’re looking for  

As Superintendent of Environmental and Approvals, you will identify Environmental Risks associated with tailings construction operations at Cadia. 

You will also assist Cadia Vally Operations, contract partners and other stakeholders with the risk identification and the robust implementation of controls to ensure project compliance to environmental and approval commitment.

This 2-year contract position will be offered on a 12/9 roster in Orange NSW, with FIFO arrangements available.

Key responsibilities include but not limited to

  • Ensuring all tasks are undertaken in a safe manner which is consistent with Newmont, site, and CITP-specific safety requirements.
  • Lead and coach the safe work practices, professional development, and administrative obligations of staffs under your direct report.
  • Visibly role model safe and operationally disciplined leadership through delivery of safety interactions, investigations, and coaching & mentoring where required.
  • Ensuring the Project complies with all applicable Statutory approvals, permissions, conditions and obligations.
  • Develop, implement, and report on the performance of monitoring activities defined in, or integrated with, the Cadia Integrated Tailings Project Environmental Management Plan obligations.
  • Contributing to the co-ordination of internal and external auditing processes, Annual Reviews, Statutory Reporting, such as the Environment Protection Licence Annual Return, Federal EPBC Annual Report, NGERS, and NPI.
  • Providing support to the broader CITP Owners Team as a leader of the HSE Team.
  • Collaborate with all relevant departments to ensure environmental risks, associated with the CITP, are managed to facilitate the effective and timely design and construction of the project.
  • Monitor the performance of contract partners, and other recognized stakeholders, as it relates to the application of environmental and approval responsibilities.
  • Interfacing with CVO to represent CITP environmental interests and ensuring that the project maintains alignment with Newmont and site performance requirements.
  • Manage and coordinate environmental contractors as required.
  • Develop and execute schedules and budgets associated with environmental compliance and approvals.

You will also possess the following: 

  • Tertiary qualified with a degree qualifications in environmental science and/or related disciplines.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in a directly comparable role.
  • Experience in construction, mining and/or equivalent heavy industry setting.
  • An understanding of the NSW and Commonwealth planning, mining, and environmental Legislation, and processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change and produce results.
  • Strong consultative and influencing skills as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills
