Superintendent - Power and Utilities Operations

Our Lihir operation in the Power and Utilities Department is now recruiting for the position of Superintendent – Power and Utilities Operations.

The role will have the following responsibilities but are not limited to:

  • Drive and influence proactive safety behaviours within workgroups through visible leadership.
  • Ensure all personnel, visitors and contractors comply with site and contractual HSE requirements and hold people accountable for adherence.
  • Plan work so that it can be conducted safely; and consider environmental conditions, nearby activities, and the people and other resources needed to complete the work.
  • Work by PNG Mine Safety Act, Newmont Safety System, Safety Policies and Procedures and Newmont.
  • Environment policies and all departmental operating procedures.
  • Assume responsibility for the performance and development of an operations shift.
  • Manage power, steam, fuel and water availability to meet customer demand daily.
  • Identify and prioritise breakdowns and unscheduled maintenance to meet operational requirements.
  • Monitor the performance of the HV network.
  • Ensure department compliance with MRA and site standards is met daily.
  • Provide operational reports as required.
  • Liaise with the P&U Manager on all matters as required.
  • Drive and influence proactive safety behaviours within workgroups through visible leadership.
  • Provide operational reports as required.

Essential criteria

  • 7+ years of relevant work experience
  • Previous experience working in a remote location in a developing country advantageous
  • Detailed knowledge of power generation and boiler operations.
  • Experience in operating and switching HV networks.
  • Proficient in English with excellent verbal, written communication and public speaking skills.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office suite.
  • Sound planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training.

Desirable criteria

  • Relevant boiler tickets
  • Tertiary qualified Bachelor’s degree or advanced diploma
  • Certificate 4 in Workplace Assessment and Training or similar
  • Electrical/Mechanical trade qualification

  • Ability to complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
