Our Brucejack operation is now recruiting for a Project Engineer with a competitive base salary between $120,000- $140,000 dependent on experience, skills, and qualifications with an additional short-term incentive of 15%. The offered base salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies with consideration to internal equity.

The Surface Operations Project Engineer position is located at Knipple camp and reports directly to the Surface Operations Manager or designate.

Perform the following duties with safety being the number one priority:

  • Uphold Newmont’s Fatality Risk management policy as the key pillar of the way we work. Stop work if risk exists, and address with leadership prior to proceeding.
  • Work alongside department leadership in project works: Preparation of feasibility studies, risk management, budget, schedule, execution plans.
    • Monitors projects: Provide regular reports on project safety, scope completion, budget expenditure and quality control.
    • Alerts line manager of any deviation from plan (Safety, budget, scope, QA/QC or otherwise).
    • Followed up with close out, and lessons learned to be applied to future projects.
  • Sourcing vendors, performing cost analysis (ROI), supporting commercial review of bids, external engineering for site projects.
  • Works with engineer of record to design safe, efficient, robust and cost-effective roadway improvements.
  • Conducts research, collects & analyzes data and recommends improvements such bridge building/replacement, equipment replacements/trials, glacier access ramps based on safety or business risk. 
  • Complete project and operational year end actuals vs target reconciliations.
  • Be a key part of the department’s overall success by supporting site initiatives and goals.
  • Work with two engineers-in-training on all aspects of work, supporting their development.
  • Work alongside department leadership and surface operations engineer-in-training to support day to day operations for entire department (Including but not limited to: Equipment operations road maintenance, Rope Access Technicians, Mountain Safety Avalanche Control, Warehouse Operations, Freight & logistics)
  • Completes accurate daily, weekly, and monthly activity reports as required.
  • Participates in any site-specific training.
  • Fosters a positive team environment.
  • Supports the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s) where required.
  • Promote a professional team with respect to other departments.
  • Respect all Newmont rules and policies.
  • Other related duties as required.

About You:

Position requirements include but are not limited to:

  • BSc. Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or equivalent education.
  • Registered as a P.Geo/P.Eng with EGBC is a requirement.
  • 5-8 years of experience in construction or operations, preference will be given to those who have roadwork experience.
  • Ability to read and direct from engineered drawings.
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Versed in project controls software: Microsoft project or Smartsheet (or alternative) are required.
  • Experience with Deswik, RoadEng, and Drone Survey Modelling would be an asset.
  • Firm understanding and experience in the life cycle of a project including methods of progressively managing risk, schedule and budgets. 
  • Strong demonstrated communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Time management and decision-making skills
  • Strong demonstrated knowledge of engineering best practices in your respective field. Additionally, be confident in working as the point of contact for vendor engineering groups for department projects.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license
  • Cross cultural awareness & understanding
  • Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures

Additional Information

  • Work at remote location (Brucejack Site) on a 13 days on/13 days off rotation
  • Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening.
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift.
  • Be able to maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shifts.
  • Able to work in areas of extreme weather conditions.
  • Able to work in close quarters with the team.
