Our Red Chris mine is located on the traditional territory of the Tahltan and we encourage qualified applicants from the local communities to apply. We offer several designated marshalling points within BC including Nanaimo, Vancouver, Kelowna, Kamloops, Prince George, Smithers, and Calgary, AB.

Our Red Chris operation is now recruiting for the position of Environmental Technician with a competitive base salary between $74,925 - $81,000 dependant on experience, skills, and qualifications. The compensation package includes a comprehensive Benefits plan, Vacation allotment, RRSP program with organizational matching, and Travel allowance to get to and from the worksite.

We are seeking an individual for a Fly-in, Fly-out opportunity working on a two-weeks-in, two-weeks-out rotation.

 

Purpose of the role

The Environmental Technician actively supports the environmental sampling and monitoring programs at the Red Chris mine site. This role supports the review, update and maintenance of environmental systems and procedures updates and overall compliance at the Red Chris Mine. This role actively monitors and implements the Environmental Standards and regulatory requirements across site.

 

Role Accountabilities

Safety: Demonstrate absolute commitment and leadership in providing a safe working environment by:

  • Supporting Red Chris Mine Safety Transformation and safety-first work culture
  • Ensuring adequate pro-active monitoring to maintain a safe work environment
  • Ensuring standard work procedures and safe systems of work are understood, and adhered to with absolute compliance
  • Participating in site safety initiatives, including being an advocate for NewSafe behaviours in the team

Technical: Demonstrate technical and operational excellence in:

  • Conducting water quality sampling on-site and in remote locations including groundwater, surface water, surface water discharge samples, and lake samples
  • Support Regulatory Compliance reporting
  • Uploading field data to the critical databases including applications of the EQuIS database
  • Preparing sample shipments including laboratory records/chain of custody (COC) and laboratory shipping notifications
  • Analyzing and interpreting environmental field data, analytical results, and environmental reports
  • Preparing and implementing environmental documents such as standard operating procedures, guidelines, and environmental management plans
  • Promoting and leading the implementation of the Red Chris environmental commitments, standards and regulations within the workplace

People: Demonstrate the highest professional and ethical standards ensuring all actions are transparent and in accordance with company policy and values by:

  • Working together as part of a team; contributing to departmental outcomes and supporting team members to work safely and efficiently
  • Supporting the team with developing technical knowledge and skills and troubleshooting problems in the field
  • Cooperating with other departments to achieve uniformity of environmental compliance on-site
  • Communicating effectively to ensure all personnel understand relevant operational plans, goals, critical path and key milestones, risks and opportunities
  • Ensuring a high performance, team culture (build trust, healthy conflict, commitment, accountability, team results)

About you:

  • B.Sc. in Environmental Sciences or a Technical Diploma or equivalent in the field of Environmental Engineering, Environmental Technology, or related discipline
  • 2 - 4 years of environmental field experience related to groundwater and/or surface water sampling
  • Has strong initiative, problem-solving, and communication skills, acute attention to detail and QA/QC
  • Ability to work in remote setting, varying weather conditions. Comfortable riding in boats, helicopters, and operating other all-terrain vehicles (ATVs, snowmobiles, etc.), with training to be provided
  • Experience working on mine sites or industrial settings
  • Proficient in MS Office suite applications
  • Work well in a collaborative team environment
  • Valid drivers license
