Lihir Operation is a tier-one open cut mining operation based on Aniolam island, in the Lihir Group of Islands, located in New Ireland Province approximately 800km north of Port Moresby. It is one of the world’s largest producing gold mines and is located on a geothermally active extinct volcanic crater. Production first commenced in 1997. The operation consists of an open pit mine producing refractory ore, which is treated using pressure oxidation before the gold is recovered by a conventional leach process.

  

About this Role

Reporting to the Superintendent Fleet Engineering you will play a critical role in developing a tactical plan of how planned maintenance activities are to be executed. You will establish a sequence of events and detailed work scopes to maximise asset unavailability.

Key to this role will be your extensive experience and knowledge in mobile plant maintenance, mobile plant maintenance strategies and the ability to navigate the CMMS (Specifically SAP) to strategically develop both short-term (2 week) and long-term plans (up to 12 months) that ensure the mobile mining fleet is serviced and repaired in line with the maintenance strategy and therefore maximising mobile asset performance. 

As an expatriate, you will play a critical role in the ongoing development of the team, in support of Newmont’s commitment to developing our national and local workforce.  

This role will be working a 22:20 roster and is offered on a 2-year Fixed Term-Full time basis.

Your role will consist of:

  • Oversee the creation of short-term maintenance plans for activities
  • Ensure job folders are compiled for each planned event
  • Ensure components, parts & external vendors (where applicable) are confirmed and scheduled
  • Manage WIP cost by triaging backlog based on criticality and age and order required parts
  • Identify potential issues that may affect the fleet in the future or trends starting to occur within the fleet that could affect availability and cost
  • Manage the backlog aging in line with departmental KPI’s
  • Develop long term component forecasts based on appropriate analysis
  • Ensure major component replacement forecast is clearly and accurately communicated to stakeholders
  • Undertake annual assessment and analysis of completed programmed maintenance activities for the open pit mobile mining fleet
  • Identify and submit capital maintenance projects based on annual budget forecasts
  • Participate and take a lead role in the half yearly review meetings with the Maintenance and Operations team
  • Ensure master data is managed in accordance with Newmont standards
  • Drives and influences proactive safety behaviours
  • Provide leadership of Planning Team

 

Your training, skills and experience checklist

Here is what we would need so see from you!

  • At least 5 years Maintenance planning experience within the heavy earth moving or fixed plant industry
  • Prior experience in Maintenance Planning or Supervision role
  • Understanding of SAP Master Data principles
  • Experience with SAP or other CMMS systems and advanced proficiency with Microsoft office suite
  • Experience working on continuous improvement projects
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude on large construction and mining equipment
  • Proven experience leading a team in a diverse cultural environment and in remote locations
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with National workforces and ability to foster individuals’ skills and capabilities
  • Diploma of Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Certificate IV Frontline Management or Diploma of Management
  • Advanced stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem solving and negotiation skills
  • Be able to work a FIFO roster in PNG
  • Ability to complete a pre-employment medical assessment
  • Must be able to complete a National Police Check & Navex Risk Rate Screening
  • Ability to satisfy all requirements for PNG Work Permit and Visa

 

Working conditions and location

 This role is offered on a 22:20 Fly in, Fly out (FIFO) roster from Australia to Lihir Island.
