Lihir Operation is a tier-one open cut mining operation based on Aniolam island, in the Lihir Group of Islands, located in New Ireland Province approximately 800km north of Port Moresby. It is one of the world’s largest producing gold mines and is located on a geothermally active extinct volcanic crater. Production first commenced in 1997. The operation consists of an open pit mine producing refractory ore, which is treated using pressure oxidation before the gold is recovered by a conventional leach process.

  

About this Role

Reporting to the Security Principal this role will ensure that all security performance standards and criteria are met.

As an expatriate, you will play a critical role in the ongoing development of the team, in support of Newmont’s commitment to developing our national and local workforce.  

This role will be working a 22:20 roster and is offered on a 2-year Fixed Term-Full time basis.

Your role will consist of:

  • Manages and ensures effective government relations that impact security service delivery to site
  • Ensures compliance and renewal of all security related licensing and permit renewals
  • Provides annual security report to the PNG Security Industry Authority
  • Ensures that documented processes, procedures and instructions comply with relevant PNG acts and legislation
  • Ensure delivery of the site Security Verification Program
  • Oversee compliance to the Gold Control Standard
  • Ensure site compliance to Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights
  • Mentor, train and provide direct support to Production, Operational, Training and investigation functions
  • Delivers work within approved budget managing any variances
  • Actively seeks cost reduction opportunities
  • Develop team members through regular feedback, coaching and formal training
  • Drives and influences proactive safety behaviours

 

 Your training, skills and experience checklist

Here is what we would need so see from you!

  • Extensive experience working in the Security, Police and Military industries in a Senior Supervisory role is beneficial
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of security management systems, programs and procedures
  • Ability to report and case manage investigations
  • Ability to assess and disseminate information relating to security intelligence, crime and incident trends
  • Ability to assess and then deliver bespoke security packages for both training and operations support
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or PNG NTC Certificate
  • Qualifications in appropriate security disciplines desirable
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines
  • Be able to work a FIFO roster in PNG
  • Ability to complete a pre-employment medical assessment
  • Must be able to complete a National Police Check & Navex Risk Rate Screening
  • Ability to satisfy all requirements for PNG Work Permit and Visa

 

Working conditions and location

 This role is offered on a 22:20 Fly in, Fly out (FIFO) roster from Australia to Lihir Island.
