Laboratory Supervisor

Assist the Laboratory Coordinator to lead and manage the Orange laboratory team to meet safety, cost and performance targets whilst maintaining alignment with Newcrest values.  Act in the role of Laboratory Coordinator in the absence of the Laboratory Coordinator.

Predominantly to support the outputs and focus on the needs of Newcrest Operations. Specifically to:

  • Provide the support required for laboratory operations to meet site OHSE standards
  • Fully understand the analytical quality and turnaround requirements of the Ore Processing, Geology, Metallurgy Development and Marketing departments and establish and maintain procedures and systems to meet these requirements
  • Under the direction of the Laboratory Coordinator, manage and lead Orange laboratory operations in the absence of the Laboratory Coordinator
  • Under the direction of the Laboratory Coordinator, manage and lead a staff of 20 to 30 people to achieve quality and performance targets
  • Under the direction of the Laboratory Coordinator, allocate staffing and equipment resources to achieve optimum efficiencies in the processing of all sample streams from receipt to reporting
  • Under the direction of the Laboratory Coordinator, manage IT and equipment maintenance so that turnaround and quality targets are met.
  • Under the direction of the Laboratory Coordinator, manage consumable stocks so that all laboratory services tasks are sustained.
  • Liaise with other departments and personnel to ensure optimum efficiency and performance of laboratory operations

Essential

  • Behaviour consistent with Newcrest values
  • At least 7 years experience in the minerals processing industry within Australia or overseas
  • Tertiary degree qualifications in Science, a relevant Diploma of Applied Science or a  Chemistry Technicians Certificate
  • Strong analytical and problem solving abilities
  • Methodical approach to work practices with emphasis on quality
  • Extensive knowledge of standard operating procedures
  • Extensive knowledge of theoretical and applied chemistry as practised in the mining industry, particularly in the areas of sample preparation, fire assay and AAS and ICP instrumental techniques as well as classical and fire assay methods of analysis for sales samples
  • Knowledge of and ability to act within established Safety, Health and Environmental standards
  • Ability and desire to step up to a leadership role

Desirable

  • QMS 1, 2 or 3
  • Certificate IV in Trainer & Assessor would be advantageous but not essential
