Our Lihir operation in Mining Department is now recruiting for the position of Geologist – Mining for FIFO role based at our Lihir Gold Operation (LGO).

Reporting to Senior Mine Geologist, you will be required to run daily- to weekly production and planning related geological activities that ensure optimum ore blends for mining operations at Lihir Mine

The role will have responsibility to:

  • Drives and influences proactive safety behaviours within workgroups through Visible leadership.
  • Plans work so that it can be conducted safely; and considers environmental conditions, nearby activities, and the people and other resources needed to complete the work.
  • Supervise sampling activities, data management and QAQC reporting.
  • Run Grade Control and Alteration models and optimise Mark-out ounces.
  • Create Digging Plans for Mining and Dispatch, monitor material movements through daily depletions.
  • Monitor and reporting on ore loss and dilution, including Rill reclaim.
  • Report stockpile balances and monitor ore blending compliance.
  • Engaging with production team to develop and implement 24 hour and weekly plans.
  • Assisting with reconciliations and production reporting.

Essential criteria

Ideally, our preferred applicant will have;

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Earth Sciences or Geology.
  • PNG Driver's Licence - Class 6.
  • First Aid Training advantageous.
  • AusIMM (or IEPNG) membership desirable.
  • 3-5 years’ progressive work experience as a Mine Geologist is required.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills in English is essential.
  • Experience in updating grade control models is required.
  • Advanced planning, organizational, communication, project management, time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Reviews data to assess performance and identify opportunities for maximising results, reducing risk and implementing cost management initiatives.
  • Advanced computer and administrative software skills (MS Office suite, Mine-Sight, acQuire, etc.,).
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills in English is essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team player to work with coworkers and contractors.
  • Cross-cultural awareness and understanding is required.

 

The Requirements

  • Must be available for FIFO to Lihir
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
