The Role

We are seeking a systems thinking, highly operationally competent Superintendent – Projects & Development, committed to working an attractive FIFO roster at the Lihir operation in Papua New Guinea.

Your aim will be maximising plant, process, and people capability to deliver the process plant business plans by owning, leading, planning, and controlling the personnel, projects, and activities of the Process Plant Operations (PPO) Projects & Development team.

We are looking for someone who has significant experience in operations management, people leadership, business and systems development. As part of our diverse team, you will cover the key functions of project development, people development, business analysis, system development, and administration, with critical interactions with all field operating and technical sections of the PPO team.

What you will be accountable for?

  • Safety: With relevance to the Projects & Development team, own and lead key Newcrest HSE programs in particular NewSafe, Process Safety and Critical Control Management, with particular focus on Projects hazard and risk management processes.
  • Management: Constantly challenge existing systems and identify and propose system improvements in plant, people, and business aspects.  
  • Project Development: Manage the Process Plant Operations Capital & Projects Portfolio.
  • People Development: Govern the Process Plant Operations people capability system, and lead the Process Plant Operations technical training team.
  • Business Analysis and Development: Evaluate business processes, anticipate requirements, uncover areas for improvement, and implement solutions.  
  • Cost: Participate in the development, review, and monitor of budgets and costs for Projects & Development, Capital Project and OPEX.

 Qualifications, technical experience includes but is not limited to:

  • Tertiary qualified bachelor’s in engineering (highly regarded) [Ideally Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering].
  • 10+ years relevant work experience in large-scale hydrometallurgical processing complex (essential).
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a senior supervisory capacity (essential).
  • 5 years’ experience in a business improvement function (highly regarded).
  • Gold Processing operational experience (highly desirable).
  • Personal responsibility to develop team members through constructive feedback, task assignment, coaching and formal training to build capability & competence.
  • Ability to develop & implement sectional plans and initiatives to achieve overall departmental goals.
  • Ability to assess financial results and identify opportunities and implement actions to maximise value.
