Superintendent - Mining

Newcrest Mining Limited, a global mining company and Australia’s largest gold producer has recently expanded its footprint into British Columbia as the operator of a Joint Venture company, Newcrest Red Chris Mining Limited. Newcrest Red Chris Mining Limited has an opportunity for a Superintendent for our Mining Department.  This position is for work at our mine located 80 km south of Dease Lake, BC in Tahltan traditional territory.  The successful applicant will be required to work and stay in camp during their shift rotation. We offer a number of designated flight marshalling points within BC.  Qualified applicants from local communities are encouraged to apply.

The purpose of the Superintendent of Mining role is to ensure the safe delivery of the mine plan, with a focus on safety,  tonnes and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate absolute commitment and leadership in providing a safe working environment
  • Promote and maintain a culture of ‘safe production’ by compliance with company safety systems, policies, procedures and accountabilities
  • Ensure all incidents, near miss and hazards are reported and recorded in the safety management system (CHESS), and are investigated and closed out in a timely manner
  • Balance workload and make decisions in consultation with other stakeholders to achieve safe production outcomes as dictated by weekly and monthly plans
  • Comply with Red Chris standards, procedures, policies and government legislation and promote and actively participate in business improvements and ideas
  • Engage technical staff when required to undertake monthly, weekly and day to day operational tasks
  • Ensure Mining Department budget quantities and costs are achieved. I.e.  Eliminate waste and rework
  • Monitor production progress against the Yearly, Monthly and Weekly Plan and take corrective action to achieve compliance
  • Perform Monthly and weekly planning of mining activities to achieve, and exceed where possible, the requirements of the mine plan
  • Provide leadership to team members through career development, coaching, training, performance management and leading by example
  • Engage the team to actively promote hazard awareness and promote the reporting of near misses
  • Display behaviour consistent with Newcrest’s Code of Conduct and ensure all work-related injuries and illnesses are classified correctly as per the relevant Newcrest procedures

Qualifications and Experience

  • Mine Engineering degree and holds a Professional Engineering designation within Canada (P. Eng.);
  • 10+ years of mining experience (hard rock an asset)
  • 5+ years of senior management and leadership experience; and has working expertise of mining methods and procedures
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the demonstrated ability and to lead, mentor, and motivate individuals and teams at all levels of the organization is required.
  • Ability to think and drive strategically and long term
  • Ability to identify the gaps in process, will also need to be able to build and roll out change
