Our Red Chris operation is now recruiting for the position of Manager - People with a competitive base salary between $156,000.00-$195,000.00 dependant on experience, skills, and qualifications, with an additional short term incentive of 30% . The offered base salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills and competencies with consideration to internal equity. 

We are seeking an individual for a Fly In, Fly Out opportunity working on a one week in, one week out rotation. 

About You  

Position requirements include, but are not limited to:   

Accountabilities

Growth Strategy/Governance:

  • Lead site workforce planning, aligned with business planning cycle and according to business goals
  • Consult with the Business Unit People team and leverage the centralized resources within Total Rewards, Talent Management, Talent Acquisition and HR Service Delivery to deliver site HR solutions that solve problems, improve existing processes and drive organizational culture
  • Collaborate with Technical Training CoE and ensure alignment to global Technical Training strategy, framework and systems
  • Input into site Organizational Design process aligned to Newmont operating model; lead execution at site-level
  • Provide HR support and guidance to Red Chris Block Cave project

Operations Excellence:

  • Work closely with the site leadership team to develop, manage and implement site HR programs, processes and policies to support the achievement of site business objectives
  • Lead site labour relations strategy and effectively manage relationship with local union; administer and interpret collective bargaining agreement and manage re-negotiations of collective bargaining agreement
  • Provide pro-active guidance and coaching to employees and leaders in the areas of performance management, policy interpretation and implementation, and human rights and employment legislation
  • Manage employee relations, including counselling line management and employees to achieve resolutions; oversee HR investigations and resolution of HR-related ethics complaints
  • Manage the collection and analysis of key data for global reporting initiatives and to support business and HR decision-making
  • Lead site Technical Training function ensuring the effective delivery of training, assessment, progression and record keeping to improve overall operational skill level and performance and maintain compliance with legislative requirements

Safety & Sustainability:

  • Partner with the site Sustainability function to develop and execute site indigenous employment and development strategy
  • Foster a high level of cultural awareness in relation to key local/indigenous communities
  • Meet agreed employment targets for local employees by working with internal and external partners and by taking individual initiative to grow opportunities
  • Maintain regular open communication with local Communities on Indigenous issues by proactively being involved with the communities

People:

  • Implement talent management and leadership development programs at site, such as performance management, talent assessment, employee development, succession planning, frontline leadership and graduate development
  • Lead the annual reward cycle on site and provide advice and day to day support to the business on compensation review, benefits and incentives
  • Collaborate with centralized talent acquisition function to ensure successful delivery of recruitment activities at site level; support leaders with role design and onboarding of new hires
  • Partner with BU People team on strategic talent management objectives to attract, retain and engage critical talent
  • Contribute to the development of the BU Inclusion, Diversity & Equity strategy and act as a change leader and coach for site Inclusion, Diversity & Equity goals
  • Support global HR projects and strategic initiatives to enable performance and engagement within the organization
  • Provide coaching, development and leadership to direct reports; foster an environment of development encouraging growth of team members and develop talent pipeline within team

Commercial:

  • Manage site HR and Training budgets, continuously identifying opportunities for improvement and optimization

Qualifications and requirements:

Problem Solving Ability:

  • Discerns trends to develop and improve existing systems.
  • Can identify the difference between special and systemic cause.
  • Ability to manage multiple and often competing priorities and objectives.

Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Labour Relations, or related field.
  • Principles and practices of Canadian employee and labour relations.
  • Current labour relations issues and the regulatory frameworks
  • Grievance and conflict procedures

 Technical Skills:

  • Advanced level of proficiency in developing and implementing programs that measurably impact positive union and employee relations.
  • Advanced level of proficiency managing investigations, performance issues, cases, disputes, and grievances in a large organization.
  • Advanced level of proficiency in negotiating enterprise/collective agreements, facilitating workshops related to improving LR/ER processes and practices and effectively communicating ideas and resolutions.
  • Competent level of proficiency in training and coaching leaders in navigating union and employment relations matters.
  • Advanced proficiency in ability to provide high quality, consistent advice on all union and employee relations matters.
