Our Red Chris operation is now recruiting for the position of Superintendent -Health and Safety with a competitive base salary between $156,000 - $207,014 dependant on experience, skills, and qualifications. with an additional short term incentive of 20% . The offered base salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills and competencies with consideration to internal equity. 

We are seeking an individual for a Fly In, Fly Out opportunity working on a one week in and one week out rotation.  

Purpose of the role

Provide safe, efficient and cost-effective operational management of Red Chris’ Safety departmental operation in accordance with legal requirements and company objectives. Provide leadership and operational direction to the work teams, ensuring resources, capacity and capability are aligned to the work plans.

About You  

Position requirements include, but are not limited to:  

Safety: Demonstrate absolute commitment and leadership in providing a safe working environment by:

  • Supporting Newmont Safety objectives and policy and supporting Safety System (Fatality Risk Management), ensuring a safety-first work culture
  • Ensuring we are following all legal requirements, organizing inspections with our regulators, and addressing and managing actions from inspections
  • Ensure adequate pro-active monitoring occurs to maintain a safe work environment
  • Ensuring adequate tools, equipment and resources are available to ensure tasks can be carried out safely
  • Taking a proactive risk management approach to departmental tasks, i.e. recognise, analyse, respond to ensure risks are at an acceptable level
  • Support the development and maintenance of standard work procedures and safe systems of work
  • Ensuring personnel are adequately trained to safely complete work requirements; coach and mentor where required
  • Conduct Visible Felt Leadership interactions and Critical Control Verifications  (CCVs) on site maintaining a safety presence
  • Ensure all Red Chris and contractor staff within your team are adequately trained to Newmont safety standards
  • Support the close out incidents and actions within the required timeframe

Technical: Demonstrate technical and conceptual excellence in anticipating problems and guiding the team to deliver on departmental goals:

  • Develop and implement both safety system level and hazard level standards, procedures and supporting materials.
  • Facilitate team-based risk assessments providing technical oversight and as required subject matter expertise
  • Conduct periodic analysis of incident data identifying trends and develop targeted interventions
  • Ensure all work-related Injuries and Illnesses are classified correctly as per the relevant Newmont procedures
  • In consultation with Hygiene Specialist develop hazard management control plans for the sites identified and prioritised health risks
  • Develop and implement an appropriate internal audit and review process for the sites
  • Provide oversight of the Red Chris Mine Rescue (Underground and Surface) team and remain accountable for emergency preparedness and response

Leadership: Demonstrate leadership with the highest professional and ethical standards ensuring all actions are transparent and in accordance with Company policy:

  • Achieve consistency and uniformity of FRM application across the site and meet Company objectives
  • Promote a site wide, team-based culture between employees, departments and contractors
  • Identifying and actively develop/coach key personnel for career development
  • Coach Managers, Superintendents, and Supervisors on FRM, CCVs, and Pre Start Meetings
  • Promote and adhere to company values related to Inclusivity and Diversity
  • Effective communication to ensure all personnel understand relevant operational strategies and goals; translate the vision into day to day activities
  • Leadership style to facilitate high performing team characteristics (build trust, healthy conflict, commitment, accountability, team  results)
  • Communicate and support the team to understand how they add value to the business
  • Spend 60% of time in field supporting the safe execution of work

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or related field is considered a strong asset
  • Mining Industry experience-underground and open pit.
  • 8-10 years in progressive safety leadership 
  • CRSP certification (Asset) 
  • Project management skills
  • Mine Rescue and Emergency response management
