Our Brucejack operation is now recruiting for an Mill Trainer with a competitive base salary between $105,000 to $120,000 dependent on experience, skills, and competencies with consideration to internal equity with an additional short-term incentive of 10%.

Reporting to the Training Superintendent, the purpose of this role is to provide best operating practices & safety skills to mill and surface employees. It also includes tracking, program improvements and support for line management’s implementation of the Brucejack Safety Management System to ensure sustainment of Newcrest H&S requirements, compliance with legislation and alignment with industry best practice.

Perform following duties, with safety being the number one priority:

  • Partnering with operational leaders to support and provide advice on the proactive management of key H&S risks onsite
  • Participate in the development of the training & safety modules, policies & standard operating procedures for the Mill Operations.
  • Develop checks lists & operating training manuals for both stationary and mobile equipment.
  • Develop & maintain training & development material & program for the Mill department.
  • Develop & promote safety practices.
  • Develop training plans.
  • Assist the superintendents to establish measurable goals & levels of competency for each position & trainees.
  • Develop and use training guides for the mill circuits.
  • Conduct in class training.
  • Provide trainees with timely feedback and coaching.
  • Maintain training documentation and ensure that records are kept up to date.
  • Register all required paperwork with appropriate agencies in regard to operator & maintenance personnel training
  • Maintain a mill training registry.
  • Ensure training activities and frequency are conducted in accordance with safety regulations & established standards.
  • Conduct annual training needs analysis & update.
  • Assist superintendents & supervisors to identify talent & develop career paths & provide progressive training to maintain skilled employees.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and incident investigation as required.
  • Writes clear & concise work procedures
  • Support implementation and maintenance of routine H&S risk assessment, control and management processes.
  • Make recommendations to improve production, training and H&S.
  • Support and encourage workers to stop work considered an immediate threat to health or safety.
  • Participate in safety hazard and management system assurance activities to confirm that site safety requirements are in place and effective. Monitor and provide feedback on compliance with safety-critical procedures (e.g., confined space, permit to work).
  • • Use the data management systems (LMS) to maintain up to date training records.
  • • Produce training reports for the training department and for mill management and mill supervisors.

    Communicate, engage with and influence superintendents, supervisors and workers as a ‘trusted advisor’ to mitigate risk and optimize worker performance and health & safety:
  • Conducts Visible Felt Leadership (VFL) interactions
  • Ensure training includes safe work practices and job or work place risks and how to control them
  • Attend departmental safety meetings and toolboxes.
  • Prepare training and information material to develop safety skills and awareness in workers, supervisors and superintendents, such as LOTO, confined space and Mill Orientation training.
  • Maintain strong relationships with the mill workforce, mill management, and contracting partners.
  • Ensure currency of own safety technical knowledge and knowledge of industry practice

About You:

Position requirements include, but are not limited to:  

  • Knowledge of surface, mill & underground operations. Experience as a Mill Control Room Operator preferred.
  • Familiar with the BC Mines Acts & Regulations
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Applications
  • Experienced in writing procedures.
  • Excellent classroom training and presentation skills,
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills with the ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
  • Possess Train the Trainer qualifications.
  • 5-10 years of experience working in a mill.
  • College diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of industrial hygiene.

Additional Information

  • Work at remote location (camp) on a 14 days on/14 days off rotation
  • Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening.
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift.
  • Be able maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shifts.
  • Able to work in areas of extreme weather conditions.
  • Able to work in close quarters with a team.
